Armageddon...Truth or Myth?

History has always been my thing. Yup. I love reading about how people lived in the past and how they created such marvellous structures minus the technology we have today. It's simply amazing. And yes, I loved all the chapters on the history of Islam. =)

The end of the world. Everyone seems to be so hyped up about it. (In my opinion, ever since 9/11) People try to link every disaster to the belief that the end is near. The question is, is it?
In the past few months itself, I have watched at least 5 documentaries on John's The Book of Revelation and on how Armageddon is approaching.

Armageddon: Is the final battle (the climax) between God and Satan. (written in The Book of Revelation) Or in general, an apocalyptic catastrophe

Let me fast forward to the interesting bit, alright. The part that really caught my attention. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It is said as the world ends four men on horses will ride the Earth.
The first, the rider on the white horse. He is often interpreted to be the antichrist. However, because he carries a bow and wears a crown, (also, the colour white is often related to divinity and holiness) most believe that he is Jesus Himself. Thus, he represents victory.
The second is the rider on the red horse who is said to be the God of War. Naturally, his symbol of power would be war. He rides the Earth carrying a sword.
The third rider, the man on the black horse. He carries scales and he brings about famine.
Finally, the final rider, on the pale horse is said to represent death itself. He does not carry any sort of weapon but he is followed by hell.

Antichrist: A person/ other entity that is an embodiment of evil.

The original text:

From the King James Version of the Bible, Revelation chapter 6, verses 1 to 8:

And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.

And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.

And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and saw a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of scales in his hand.

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

The reason I find this so interesting is because in Hinduism, we too have a horseman, Kalki, the tenth and final incarnation of Vishnu the Preserver who will come to end the "Dark Ages" (in other words to clean up the mess in the world.) Kalki's apperance is also linked to the end of days.

So, it got me thinking...could there be some truth afterall to these myths?

The four horsemen of the Apocalypse.
